Engines using electronic fuel injection take great pains to accurately measure the air coming in. The engine's management computer (or ECM, for "engine control module") needs that information in order to add the proper amount of fuel to maintain a "lambda" ratio. Once the ECM knows how much air is in the engine, it calculates the amount of fuel needed and then translates that to the amount of time it needs to open the fuel injectors in order to deliver the required quantity of fuel.

But all that work goes out the window is there is a problem getting the fuel to, or through, the injectors. In this edition of the Motor Age How2 video series, The Trainer, we'll show you some tips and techniques for testing the fuel system's ability to deliver as promised.
